Heist's Guide to Christmas Party Grooming

It’s fair to say that 2020 has been a year of ups and downs. And finally, tis’ the season to be Jolly! Whether you’re planning on celebrating over another video call or you’ve managed to get in a ‘business lunch’ we’ve pulled together our guide to Christmas party grooming.

  1. Don't skimp (or skip) on your grooming regime

It’s time to put some effort in and up your game. Unless you sit two metres away from your laptop, your colleagues will have the length of a meeting to scrutinise your skin, hair and teeth, so ensure that you're on top of your grooming game.

That said, alongside doing all the things you usually do, now's the time to add some extra products into the mix. Try a Matte Dust Powder to add a little bit of volume.

  1. Pre-style and blow dry your hair

One of the main differences between the mess you create and the masterpiece your barber sculpts is their use of a hair dryer, brush, and a pre-styling product.

Apply a few sprays of Sea Salt Spray into clean damp hair before blasting it with air. This will help to lock your hair in place whilst add volume and texture.

Use a hair dryer with a air concentrator nozzle, high speed airflow and low heat setting. Holding your hair dryer in one hand and a vent brush in the other, brush your hair in the direction that you want it to sit as you apply heat.

Once the hair is in place and you’re happy with the shape you have created, blast it with the cool shot. The cool shot button helps to seal the hair cuticles, setting your desired style in place for longer and with shine.

  1. Clay goes a long way

Check out our Matte Clay by Heist Labs, part of GQ’s Best Hair Styling Products for Men. Apply the Matte Clay to freshly blow-dried hair, the morning of the party for all day long hold.

  1. Less (product) is more

When it comes to hair styling products, our styling experts are firm believers in ‘less is more’. All those times your partner said your hair gel was a bit overkill. Well, they're kind of right. If you use too much product your hair can quickly start looking greasy and messy. When styling your hair, start with much less product and build it up – but too much – as you go on.

Lapping on more than you need is a nightmare to remove unless you stick your head under the shower again, so take heed of our advice and don’t apply so much. If you find that you’re not achieving the style you want by using less product, you probably need to switch to a product where you’re able to use less and achieve more.

  1. If all else fails, try a filter...

Don’t worry if you don’t quite master your grooming routine this time. Zoom has an option that allows you to apply a filter to your video display that will clean up your appearance!

First, download the Zoom desktop app for your computer (the layout is much simpler), click on the settings icon in the top-right corner, and go to the video tab. You'll find a checkbox next to the option to "touch up my appearance." You can toggle this box on and off. Have a great time! Don’t forget you’re on camera ;)

Enjoy this Christmas period and bring on 2021!
